For minimal weight and size (thus maximum speed and agility) it was uniquely among gunships to be operated by a single pilot only. The Russian designed Ka-50 Hokum also can carry 24 ?Vikhr? missiles, four 20-round rocket pods, or a mixture. The Hokum also can carry the AA-11/R-73 Archer air-to-air missiles, which makes the Hokum a very capable threat against opposing attack helicopters. The 30mm 2A42 is also mounted on the Hokum, albeit more like a fighter?s cannon. The Hokum?s top speed is 350 kilometers per hour, and it has a combat radius of 250 kilometers.

Notice that last top 3 are all Russians, cause Apache was made by Russian Sikorsky!

    • Ryan Ellis

Sikorsky is an american company…And igor Sikorsky was an american citizen by 1928. You can’t claim someone to be Russian if that person found Russia to be so awful the emigrated and took up citizenship elsewhere.

The fact that a bunch of Russian intellectuals fled the country and successfully created a business which they wouldn’t have been able to do in Russia should not be a source of pride for any Russian. Well, aside from those who had the good sense to leave the country that is.

      • ☢ Ruhel ☢

Regardless of the troubles surrounding the Russian/Soviet economic system, it cannot be denied that they made some astounding technical advancements. Notably, in this case, with military aircraft.

Agreed they sucked at manufacturing products for civilian consumption, but wasn’t that always going to be the case?

        • peace man

Sikorsky is a pain in the ass to work on lol. I love my 60’s but damn man… bell/ boeing make things so much more simple. but yeah great things came from all over the world in the united states that’s why we are the best! We have intellectuals from all over the world!

          • Sky Bitch

That’s the thing you can’t deal with. Every nation is unique, and here comes the special element of Russian engineers: make all the controls as hard as space shuttle so only Russians could understand it. And here is the second element of Russian engineering: American engineers test the aircraft project’s characteristics, they find out can it fly or not, they create the plane and show successful results, Russian engineers make an aircraft project, create it, show successful results and only then find out that basically this thing shouldn’t fly by the laws of physics.

See, that’s our advantage here in America: almost all of us are from someplace else, originally, but we’re all American. The Russians can take pride in the fact that Sikorsky was born in Russia, and we can take pride in the fact that he became an American.

          • Prince

Really…he altered the way of thinking about helicopters..

        • CascadesWA

Sikorsky is not a leading manufacturer in the U.S. – he is small compared to Being and Lockheed.

Secondly, Sikorsky has been American for multiple generations already. He is as far from Russian as anyone can get.

Russia doesn’t produce or create anything of value today. They can’t even make a good car, let alone a good airplane. Russians sole credit is to helicopters, but numerous other nations have already overtaken Russia in advancement and technology – as well as capability.

Most of the Russian military transport aircraft are Antonov’s A UKRAINIAN state owed company manufacturing in Kyiv. The new Russian fighter the PAK-FA is mostly designed and built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in India

          • RedBaron9495

Wrong it’s a joint project….the bulk of the PAK-FA including the engines are built by the Russians

      • Arestaeus

He was a Russian immigrant, in those years tons of Russian aristocrats, scientist, wealthy investors and white army officers left for the U.S.. Each was a Russian national left, because Russian empire was defeated and each contributed to American development greatly (inventions, investment, military training).
So yes you can say Apache invented by a Russian. Alright it’s decently not better than ka52.

        • CascadesWA

Apache was not invented by a Russian. Sorry. It was invented by an American immigrant named Sikorsky. Also, he was not the only one involved.

Also, Sikorsky was half Polish – as you can partly tell by his name. He was already a U.S. citizen by 1928, having nothing else to do with Russia.

        • steveng

I doubt that the Kamov KA-50/KA-52 comes anywhere near the Apache or the AH-64D Apache Long Bow, it has not been proven as deadly as the Apache and it has not had as many kills as the Apache has. But it would be an interesting thing to compare the KA52 against the Apache Log Bow but I bet you that the Apache Long Bow would outclass the KA52 and it would come out the winner.

          • Arestaeus

You can doubt all you want:). It’s faster more maneuverable, can fly higher more powerful and safer :). If you loose s trail in Apache your gone, ka 52 doesnt have a tail rotor and has dual ejection seats. Just because Apache was used to kill more people(which is sad) , doesn’t say much.

Ka52 carries deadlier missiles and weaponry with focus on ground units , Apache might be better for air to air targets. However a lot weapons can be reconfigured in both helicopters depending on the mission. Apache is badass, but just a hairline shy of number 1 badass:).

          • xjen

Which wars has the Kamov been in? NON It is completely unproven in battle and until it is its just a peace of metal driven by TOY soldiers

          • Benito Llan

Undeniably the Ka-52 has more potential than the Apache, it’s more agile, fly higher, faster and is safer (or could easily be) because crew can eject

But also undoubtably, Apache is better in practice just because it’s widely used and thus crew and engineers learn from experience and improve all they can.

          • Benito Llan

Ka52 has more potential but Apache is better in the practice because, you know, you learn from experience and mistakes, and you develop things when you really need to use them and you DO use them – not that Russians need to use neither DO use their choppers every day/week/year.

If US Americans replaced their Apaches for Ka52 and put their systems and expertise, it would undoubtably become better than the Apache.

          • RedBaron9495

Completely wrong….much of American is over-complex as well as over-rated….not to mention the MIC always over-budgeting, thus making it expensive.

        • xjen

          Soviet immigrant he was UKRAINIAN

      • RedBaron9495

Still Russian brains though…much like the U.S Space program & NASA benefited from Operation Paperclip and have a bunch of German Nazi scientists develop the program for them.

        • Daren Mcintosh

The rest of the German scientists went to Russia. Remember, they split Berlin, they split the spoils of war.

      • mart r

who gives a shit if sikorsky is a septic tank ..polack..a friend of the the fuhrer in ww2…
or a vodka and borsch boy
this is about 10 best attack helicopters not racial profiles you dicks

Actually, multiple companies not just Sikorsky’s worked on it. Not one man. Most of them were American.

‘Proposals were submitted by Bell, Boeing Vertol/Grumman team, Hughes, Lockheed, and Sikorsky. In July 1973, the U.S. Department of Defense selected finalists Bell and Hughes Aircraft’sToolco Aircraft Division (later Hughes Helicopters). This began the phase 1 of the competition.[11]” ‘

And Sikorsky was Ukrainian, not russian.

And in the “Boeing AH-64 Apache” article Sikorsky was only mentioned twice.

      You’re wrong, you git.

      • Arestaeus

Ukrainian and Russian was the same at the time of Surkovskiy immigration. Ukraine never existed prior to break up of soviet union. Even now days half the Ukrainian people think of themselves as Russian.

        • Guest

Ukrainian is not Russian. I am Ukrainian and I do not consider myself anything like a Russian. Either in culture, language or behavior.

          • Arestaeus

Your one of those :)) Good for you like I said half, the traditional Ukraine that is same as Russia.. not “Lvov” the west. I do understand, I like Russia language better:) , also in Russian they don’t have neonazis with guns killing people, they don’t force civilians to fight a war at a gun point, they also don’t overthrow just about every president they elect or constantly fight in the Parliament.
Almost entire Ukrainian infrastructure and nearly all of its cities and ports were build by Russia for the past 500 years. Most of Ukrainian lands were Russian(except the west part) , with Russian/Ukrainian people living there for centuries. It’s funny how can one tell the difference lol.

          • nathan

You are correct cause Ukraine and Alaska was part of russia till some queen decided to sell Alaska to America then russians born Ukraine which is still part of russia

          • Arestaeus

            Your a complete moron

        • xjen

Ukraine existed before Russia you moron. Look up .Kievan Rus. Ukainians think of them selves as Ukrainian. Even the Pro russian insurgents movement in the east regard them selves as Ukrainian just want to be Affiliated with Russia rather then Western Europe not be part of Russia.

        • Benito Llan

“half” dream dream, may be in the East it’s half or a little more than half, but even there propaganda is needed to make them seem to be more.

    • Mr nob

Actually the Apache was made by American engineers at Hughes helicopters, which was then absorbed into Boeing along with other manufacturers such as Vertol.

      • Believerification .

Yeah, just like chimichangas are made by “Americans”.

    • John

No, the apache was made by Hughes Aircraft…..

    • CascadesWA

Sikorsky is as much Russian as Vladimir Putin is Mexican.

Sikorsky is an American company, owned by Americans. Just because the name sounds Polish, the Russians will attempt to take credit. Hilarious.

    • Guest

Yea and PRADA is also a Russian name but has nothing to do
with the Russia (and btw, PRADA is so so so loved by the ritzy Russian
hypocrite commo upper class set too), your analogy is the most ridiculous thing
that I have read on the web and to compare and to give Sikorsky the credit that
his technology is in anyway related to anything Russian is absolutely
ridiculous and you must be either a Russian commo or you have no idea what you
are talking about. Sikorsky’s experience and knowledge and success was firstly
and mainly due to him being in democratic US and not under the dictatorship of
Stalin who would have probably killed Sikorsky like he did to most Russian top
engineers and scientists of that era.

Most of Sikorsky’s success was due to the man being persistent
and the man being in the right place at the right time to develop the
helicopter as a viable aircraft first, and as it was proven later, as an
effective evacuation aircraft which was the only thing that the helicopter was firstly
used for in the Korean War. Sikorsky was a very big part of the development of
the helicopter as an effective air craft and also which was only achieved in
the last 50 years, as an effective and very deadly attacking combat unit for
      the army, marines.

If you consider Sikorsky as Russian that is fine but only by
name but if you consider that the AH-64D Apache Long Bow has anything to do with
Russia or Russian technology then you are either mad or you are smoking
something illegal and you should stop doing that right away because you will
get caught and charged with a misdemeanour. lol

      • steveng

Its not even by name, because ‘Sikorsky’ especially when it ends with ‘sky’ is a Polish name, so all you deluded, vodka Stolichnaya drunk Russians stop saying that ‘Igor Sikorsky’ is Russian because he is not!!!

    • Skillet

Sikorsky was born in Kiev you idiot, and Kiev as we know is Ukraine

    • Jeremy Wessel

The Apache originated with Hughes, which was taken over by McDonnell Douglass, which was taken over by Boeing. Sikorsky was not involved.

    • xjen

Sikorsky was Ukrainian born in Kiev (Then the USSR) never RUSSIA

    • Igor

Igor Sikorsky was born in Ukraine (for russian knowledge ).

    • Justin McElhaney

Sirkosky had no part in making the apache..it was made by Hughes(1975-1984),Mcdonnel(1984-1997) and Boeing(1997-present)…Sirkosky only submitted a bid contract and lost…

    • Justin McElhaney

Besides that sirkorsky was retired by the 1960s and 1 ofhis 4 sons who were all born in tne US to aUS born mother was in control of the company at the time the apache bid went out..

    • shawshank09

What are you a commie cheerleader? or worse a democrat

    • bill george

lol notice how the russian’s try to take credit for a Ukrainian working in a American company. Figures seeing as how shitty their country is doing nowadays

    • Chris P

Sorry to disappoint you, but the Apache was designed by
Boeing. Sikorsky’s designed didn’t make the shortlist in 1973.

Checking your facts before writing might be something you
      should consider.

(BTW Sikorksy used to be owned by UTC, and was sold to
Lockheed Martin in 2015. No connection to Boeing).

Actually it is. m1 Abrams, AC130, f-35. It is the best.

        • Sky Bitch

Well, I respect AC130 in role of a gunship, not the cargo plane.
We can identify the “potential” best tank/plane/helicopter/Humanoid Battle Robots by tests. But the real winner can only be identified through the battle. I also think that Abrams gives it’s positions back as an MBT, comparing to Leopard or Merkava (Not comparing to the eastern vehicles), but it’s only my opinion. Still Abrams stays the best tank…as an eye-candy. It’s a good tank, but not superior, If you only fight old soviet T-72 with it, that have no chances against them.

And I’m not Russian, so there won’t be any shitstorms.

and what makes apache better then tiger, mi-28 and especially ka-52? The fact it’s older?

Look at the facts. Age doesn’t matter.

      • HamdiM

Well if we’re looking at the facts, the Apache has a very poor performance record compared to the Mi-24. It should be noted though, that neither aircraft actually performed combat operations they were DESIGNED to do. There was one mission, however, in Karbala, Iraq where 31 Apaches were damaged and one was shot down in an unsuccessful attack on A Republican Guard Armor division.

  • billy smith

Newest version Apache AH-64E goes around 220 mph ,this thing is a beast.

    • Sky Bith

      >>220-230 mph
Just as fact: Soviet Mil-24 had a world record of 228 mph. The fact it’s fatter than other helicopters doesn’t make it slower. As I remember it was only beaten by Westland Lynx in 80s for 249 mph. Feel free to fix me if I’m wrong.

      • billy smith

Sky I saw that figure the other day about
the Mi-24 I had no idea with the size of that dude it could go that fast the
figure I found was 208 mph.. Soviet Union wanted a hybrid attack copter with ability
to carry a small force. There is no comparison of this type of attack copter in
the west. I like the idea with a copter that can do both roles carry 8 special
force units if you need have the fire power to fight your way out of a kill box.
This copter has seen lots of combat proved it many times to come out on the
winning side of action. Post a link about the speed that seems to be somewhat of
an issue. I was able to read a lot about the history of this machine what it
can do and has done. Soviet pilots
called the Mi-24 the “flying tank”The Mujahideen fighters called it Shaitan-Arba” (Satan’s Chariot)”.

  • Himankan

Indian LCH (Light Combat Helicopter) is a newly made attack helicopter and is said to be next to Apache. Some also call it Indian Apache and note that this new helicopter has stealth and digital camouflage too!

    • roboze

should it not be called the apache indian? ta daa! :p

      • Believerification .

        good one

  • 2005OEFArmy .

In my opinion the Ka-50/52 is the most advance helicopter on the planet. It is really hard to compare it to the Apache since it’s not battle tested and it may be inferior in electronics, but as far as mechanical engineering goes – it’s tops. But I think that all aspects considered, mi-24 may be the best all around helicopter ever made(considering versatility).

  • Strelok

We will se how is nummber one in the battlefield when world war III start until then we can just speculate.

  • USSR Grunt

Apache is shit being compared to Mi-28 and Ka-50.Also,Ka-52 should be one of the first 3! Mi-24 must be 4th or 5th!@ stupid propaganda list brainwashing

And you must be Russian too…yeah??? The KA 50/52 Mi-28 in comparison to anything American is like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Lada,

      • Joseph Kool

Even if it’s better than the Apache Russian pilots and training can’t compete.

  • Arestaeus

Ka52 is way better than Apachee, let’s not be biased now. Faster, more maneuverable, dealer pay load and the only helicopter in the wild to have ejection seats.

    • Believerification .

Plus, it goes higher than any other helicopter.

  • Arestaeus

Apache is a badass helicopter but it should have between at the most 3rd on the list.

  • steveng

Yea and PRADA is also a Russian name but has nothing to do
with Russia (but, isn’t PRADA so so so loved by the ritzy Russian
hypocrite communist upper class set) lol…, Your analogy is the most ridiculous thing
that I have ever read on the web and to compare and to give Sikorsky the credit that
his technology is in anyway related to anything Russian is absolutely ridiculous. To make this sort of a statement you must be either a Russian or you have no idea what you are talking about. Sikorsky’s experience and knowledge and success was firstly and mainly due to him being in a democratic country like America and not under the dictatorship of murderous Stalin (which btw is the reason why Sikorsky ran away from Russia) who would have probably killed Sikorsky like he did to most of the Russian top engineers and scientists of that era.

Most of Sikorsky’s success was due to the man being persistent and the man being in the right place at the right time to develop the helicopter as a viable aircraft first, and as it was proven later, as an effective evacuation aircraft which was the only thing that the helicopter was firstly used for in the Korean War. Sikorsky was a very big part of the development of the helicopter as an effective air craft and also which was only achieved in the last 50 years, as an effective and very deadly attacking combat unit for the army, marines. If you consider Sikorsky as Russian that is fine but only by name but if you consider that the AH-64D Apache Long Bow has anything to do with Russia or Russian technology then you are either mad or you are smoking something illegal and you should stop doing that right away because you will get caught and charged with a misdemeanour…lol

I sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is Impossible and I’m fucking retarded but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Apache” and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can’t accept me you’re a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.

    • Windgrave Stol Mandick

      Wow. What I just read.

    • steveng

its not a matter of being understanding, you are a ‘mental case’ and need psychiatrist and medical help ‘URGENTLEY’ and that is not being a ‘heliphobe’ that’s being realistic!!!

  • Samir Nasri

    T-129 Attack helicopter is best.
    attack time… 🙂

  • RedBaron9495

Total b’ullshit rating…..the Ka-52 “Alligator” is the best attack Helicopter going…for speed, manoeuvrability and armaments.

  • 4555joe

Sorry but the Apache does Not hola a cande to the Russian Armore helicópteros
That aré work inglés in Syria .The Apache will be blow out the sky in a minute!!!

  • Some stats for the Rooivalk, now that its been properly tested in combat… Independent source: “5,545m “out-of-ground effect” hover ceiling. The next
best is the US Apache (3,866m), followed by the Russian Mi-28 and Ka-52
    (3,600m); the Franco-German Tiger (3,200m) and the Chinese WZ-10
(2,000m). The Rooivalk also has the highest cruise speed, the best rate
of climb and the best range/weapons load performance, and shares with
the Tiger the best power to weight ratio.” – although it still does not have the 10km-range Mokopa missile developed for it.

  • Mesut

    My favorite is T-129

Curious that the Westland Lynx did not make this list
