Touching down in Grand Cayman, you will feel you have landed in paradise. This stunningly beautiful Caribbean Island is home to the world-famous Seven Mile Beach, and coincidentally a visit to Seven Mile Beach is one of the Top things to do while on Island. There are many things to see and do in Grand Cayman; here are our top 5 recommendations for your next visit.
1. Visit Seven Mile Beach
It would be difficult to go to Grand Cayman and not visit the best beach on the island, Seven Mile Beach. The beach is almost 7 miles long of white powder-like sand and crystal-clear waters. Despite the name, a generous measurement puts the actual length at just a bit over 6.3 miles. The beach has many 5-star luxury condos and hotels lining its shores. One of our personal favourites would be the Caribbean Club and the Ritz Carlton. The beach also features lots of water sports and fun activities for visitors.
2. Be Adventurous at Stingray City
If you are feeling adventurous, then we recommend a visit to Stingray city but getting there on the water by jet ski is the ultimate way to travel. You can board your jet ski and head out for the middle of the ocean where you will find that the water is only knee high. Here you will be greeted by friendly stingrays and remember to kiss one, and you will have good luck for seven years. Once you have experienced the Stingrays, you are taking your jet skis over to Rum Point where you can enjoy beachside dining and a rum punch at the local rum shack.
3. Explore Camana Bay
Camana Bay is Grand Caymans newest village and is one of the nicest places to visit by day or night. It is a lively waterfront town where you can satisfy your foodie cravings, shop for all things local and explore weekly Local Harvest Market and it is just a short walk from Seven Mile Beach. I recommend going to the night-time one. The village features entertainment, restaurants, bars and some wonderful local and designer shops which open late.
4. Go, Island Hopping
Visit one of the lesser known islands of the Cayman Islands such as Little Cayman or Cayman Brac you will need to fly here, but if you are seeking solitude, then a visit to Little Cayman’s Owen Island or Point of Sand is a must for those looking for total relaxation. You can fly here with Cayman Airways. The island features less than 200 year-round residents and only has a handful of villas and small dive resorts, it’s hard not to find solitude on blissful Little Cayman. You can enjoy excellent diving, snorkelling, water activities or relax on the beach.
5. Visit Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park
The park is one of the nicest in the Caribbean. It is a traditional Caymanian garden home to orchids (in bloom late May through June) and iguanas as well as parrots and other birds. The park now also contains the Floral Colour Garden, a Cayman Heritage Garden; A lake, an orchid boardwalk exhibit, and a Blue Iguana Habitat. Also, inside the park is a gift shop and a visitor’s interpretive centre. The interpretive centre is a must-see for nature and animal lovers. You can just come here and spend an hour or two or a full day!
For those looking for a beach destination then Grand Cayman offers all that yet so much more including some of the best diving in the Caribbean, excellent snorkeling, gourmet restaurants, wonderful shopping and some of the most luxurious villas imaginable.
